Year 7 and 8 girls travelled to Wanganui to take part in the annual Quad Tournament on 14-15 June, hosted by St George’s School.
With strong sporting talent in our Intermediate Department, the netball, hockey and football squads were full of both experience and girls who were motivated to take on a new sporting pursuit.
After arriving in Wanganui the girls were billeted with families from St George’s School. This was the first time that the majority of the girls had been billeted and it was great to see them all make the most of this new experience.
The Thursday morning was clear but crisp and each squad departed for their respective venues, excited for a day of competition with Iona College, St George’s and Carncot.
The football squad included a number of girls who were relatively new to the sport but had transferable skills that stood them in good stead to be successful at quad. The team had two very strong wins and an unfortunate one goal loss in the final. A very strong performance from a team that went from strength to strength as the tournament progressed.
The netball girls faced very stiff opposition but came away with the result of third overall and played some fantastic netball throughout the day.
Luckily we managed to get over to the hockey turf to support our girls in their final against St George’s School. Both teams had won their first two games well and were very evenly matched. After a fantastic final that was poised at 2 all going into the final minutes, Woodford House got the breakthrough after some fantastic inter-play and managed to close the game out.
Taking home a trophy that we hadn’t won since 2012 was certainly a highlight from a very successful quad.
Congratulations to all girls who participated at quad, you were a credit to the School both on and off the field of play.
