Level 2 Technology students participated in a workshop at the MTG on 10 February.
The workshop ran in conjunction with the Dame Whetu Tirakatene-Sullivan exhibition of her garments. Students explored symbols used in kowhaiwhai patterns as featured in the exhibition. After viewing the exhibition and finding out more about this iconic woman students developed their own unique design using one of the symbols they had learnt about. As part of their course they also learned about applied design on fabric. After the workshop they could understand how symbols can be developed into repeated and mirrored designs.
