The combination of dedication, resiliency and team work over the winter sport season contributed to a fantastic finish at the annual New Zealand Secondary Schools Winter Tournament Week for our 1st XI Hockey, 1st XI Football and Senior Premier Netball teams.
Since the beginning of the year, girls across all three teams have been putting in hours of training, refining their skills and working on team tactics all with the goal of doing well at Tournament Week. The girls were rewarded with all three teams having some of their best games of the season and this year being one of the most successful Tournaments Week competitions for Woodford House across all three sports.
Our 1st XI Hockey team travelled to Carterton to take part in the Jenny Hair Cup National Tournament. The girls played some great hockey over the week finishing 7th out of 16 teams, winning their final game 2-1 against Marlborough Girls’ High School.
The 2018 Grant Jarvis Tournament was held in Whanganui where our 1st XI Football team came up against schools from all over the North Island and did extremely well finishing 11th out of 24 teams. The girls scored a 2-0 win in their final game against St Peter’s Palmerston North.
The Woodford House Senior Premier Netball team was based in Palmerston North for the Lower North Island Secondary School Netball Tournament. The team had a very successful tournament making the B grade final and also qualifying for A grade next year. The girls came up against a very tough Rua Mano team in the final and although they couldn’t quite get the win they should all be proud of the way they played throughout the tournament.
Special mention to Rylie Bensemann, Year 13, who was named in the B Grade Netball tournament team and Tessa Burns, Year 11, who was named Woodford House player of the tournament for football.
