Twilight Athletics Finals and Sports Round-up

Over the past few years there have been discussions around how to involve parents more in the athletics event. A suggestion from the Parents’ Association was to trial a change to the Athletic finals by making it a twilight event so that it can be supported by the Woodford community in the same way as swimming sports.

Athletics Finals 2015 – Wednesday, 21 October 2015

We have decided to trial this on Wednesday, 21 October from 3.00pm until 7.00pm. This will be a whole school activity for the students and to acknowledge the extra time taken with the event school will finish at lunchtime on Thursday, 22 October.  We encourage boarding parents to attend the twilight Athletics on Wednesday night then pick up their daughters the following lunchtime to travel home for the Anniversary weekend exeat.

We appreciate the constraints placed on the school calendar but believe this is a change worth trialling in the best interests of both the students and staff in terms of teaching and learning during Term 4, and the school community as a whole. An email will be sent out regarding transport and asking for parent help in the next few weeks.

Focus 3 on Tour

Focus 3 refers to our three premier sports teams. Each year the teams embark on trips to various New Zealand Secondary School tournaments as part of Winter Tournament Week. This year football was based in Auckland, netball in Palmerston North and hockey in Pukekohe. Whilst the main focus is on sports performance the students also learn about living the life of a semi-professional athlete by maintaining school work, living with other athletes and managing themselves, including cooking their own food.
