Swinging Sixties in Social Studies

Our Year 10 Social Studies programme has got off to a swinging start with our study of changes during the 1960s.

The sounds of the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and the Beach Boys could be heard throughout the Hodge Classroom Block as students investigated iconic events such as the Beatles visit to New Zealand, Martin Luther King’s March on Washington and the moon landings.

Our topic traditionally ends with a 1960s party during which students present an authentic entertainment item and model the fashion of the decade. The Alliance Team in the kitchen did a splendid job of creating a delicious 1960s lunch of cheerios, sausage rolls, cheese balls and mini pavlovas.
