Sports Round Up – Term 3, 2018

Woodford House girls have shown strength and determination throughout the winter sports season resulting in some great individual and team achievements.

As the winter sport season comes to an end we can reflect on another successful netball season. Not only did we have students excelling on the court, but we also had a strong presence of Woodford House students officiating games throughout the season.

  • Senior Premier – Winners of Hawke’s Bay Netball Super 12 Plate Final and runners up in the B grade final at Lower North Island Secondary School Tournament
  • Senior Black – Runners up in Hawke’s Bay Netball Senior 7 grade
  • Junior Development – Runners up in Hawke’s Bay Netball Year 9/10 grade
  • Year 7/8 Premier – 3rd in Hawke’s Bay Netball Year 7/8 Two grade
  • Year 7/8 Black – Runners up in Hawkes Bay Year 7/8 Three grade
  • Georgia Trent – Passed her New Zealand Theory test for Netball umpiring and was named Rescom Security Systems Junior Umpire of the Year Award Winner 2018 at the Hawke’s Bay Netball Awards. Georgia has also been selected to umpire in the Central Zone Super Club tournament in Wellington 15 September – 16 September.
  • Pieta Parvin – Was selected to umpire the Hawke’s Bay Netball Super 12 Trophy Final and is in the process of sitting her New Zealand theory test. Good luck Pieta!

Winter Quadrangular Tournament, Iona College 5-6 August

Woodford House won the annual Winter Quadrangular Tournament 2018, hosted by Iona College this year. This is a hotly contested tournament between Woodford House, Iona College, Nga Tawa and St Matthew’s Collegiate. Our champions worked hard in testing weather conditions to score some great results.

The Woodford House 1st XI Football team won 1-0 against Iona College on the first day, with further wins on the Monday against St Matthew’s Collegiate 2-1 and Nga Tawa 3-0. The 1st XI Football team took out the football cup for the first time since 2012.

Senior Premier Netball won 28-20 against Iona College in their opening match and on the Monday beat St Matthew’s Collegiate 33-23 and Nga Tawa 22-17. This was the fifth year in a row that the Senior Premier Netball team have won the netball cup at Quad.

Hockey 1st XI faced some strong opposition and were beaten 6-1 by Iona College, narrowly losing 2-1 to St Matthew’s Collegiate and winning 3-2 against Nga Tawa

Sport Aerobics

Well done to Rebekka Schulze who placed 1st in the Y11-Y13 grade at the Sport Aerobics National Qualifier for the Wellington region.  Rebekka will now compete in the National Championships later this month.

Distance Running

We had a small team of girls compete in the East Coast North Island Road Race at Frimley Park in Hastings on 23 August. Charlotte Treadwell finished 14th and Courtney Woodmass 12th in the Year 9 Girls 3km. Alia Wentz and Tessa Burns both ran in the Senior Girls 4km with Alia finishing 8th and Tessa 4th.

Woodford House Equestrian Event 2018

Everyone had a great day at the Woodford House Equestrian Event on Monday 25 September. The competition ran very smoothly after an early start, with the two-fence challenge reaching a massive height of 1.50m, and a novelty event run by Fenn Braithwaite and Bridgette Haldane being a huge hit. Well done to our Woodford House girls who enjoyed some fantastic individual and team placings listed below:

Woodford House Ski Team 2018

Congratulations to the Woodford House Ski Team who competed at the 2018 Hawke’s Bay Secondary School Championships at Whakapapa on Saturday 15 September with fantastic results below:

Woodford House 1 Team (Molly Goodisson, Joelie Scott, Sophie Lowry and Emma Ritchie) finished fourth overall, and Woodford House 2 Team (Clementine Coates, Emma Jackson, Ruby Mason and Isabella Ladbrook) finished seventh.

Clementine Coates and Joelie Scott clocked in as first and second fastest Junior Girls respectively. Molly Goodisson raced into second fastest Senior Girl.

Fastest Girls Individual overall saw Molly Goodisson in second place, Clementine Coates in third and Joelie Scott in fourth place.

Special thanks to our parents, accompanying teacher Miss Annabel Jones and Director of Sport Mr Alex Nixon for all their organisation and support.
