Sports Round Up – Term 2, 2016

Find out the latest results from our action packed calendar of sporting events. Girls have competed far and wide in cross country, football, hockey, netball and orienteering. We also held our highly successful Growing Athletes event which was attended by 70 students from schools across the region.

Sports Highlights Term 2

  • Winners of Year 7/8 Quadrangular
  • 1st XI Football defeat NGHS 2-1, 6 years after last victory over Hawke’s Bay’s largest girls’ school
  • Year 9 team and Senior Girls team finish 2nd at ECNISS Cross-Country Relays
  • Wallingford win Winter Interhouse Sport.

Sports Academy Highlights

  • Recipe for Success presentations from Year 2 and 3 academy students
  • Q&A with Peira Hudson, former student and New Zealand’s #1 Skier
  • Speech from entrepreneur and businessman Bruce Peterson
  • 70 students from other schools attended our Growing Athletes event.

East Coast Cross Country Championships held in Gisborne on 8 June

  • Year 9 girls – Alia Wentz finished 4th and Jessica de Lautour 12th
  • Junior Girls – Molly Goodisson 9th and Bridgette Haldane 19th
  • Senior Girls – Ginny Gibbs finished 3rd, Monique Way 8th, Katie McNeill 16th, Clotilde Vetal 29th
  • Senior girls team – 3 person team of Ginny, Monique and Katie finished 3rd.

NZSS Cross Country Championships held in Rotorua on 18 June

Year 9 girls 3km race – Alia Wentz finished 43rd out of a total of 94 runners.

Senior girls 4km race – Ginny Gibbs finished 49th, Monique Way 74th, Molly Goodisson 92nd and Katie McNeill 104th out of 116 runners.


Tessa Burns and Monique Way recently competed in the New Zealand club championships for orienteering. Tessa finished 10th in Junior Girls and Monique 8th in Senior Girls. In the Hawke’s Bay Schools Long Distance Championships Tessa won the Junior event and Monique finished 2nd in the Intermediate Girls.

Super 12 Netball Umpires

Pieta Parvin and Georgia Trent selected to umpire their first Super 12 Secondary School competition netball games.

Hawke’s Bay Hockey 2016 Girls Reps

Eight girls were selected following trials for the Hawke’s Bay Girls Rep Squads:

  • Under 15 A team – Sasha Norris
  • Under 15 B team – Olive Cornwall, Sarah Kean, Pippa Klingender and Elise Maiorana
  • Under 13 A team – Amy Kean and Madeline Kitchener
  • Under 13 B team – Annabel Kerr and Martine Sandberg
