My 125 Moment – Isobel Ham

Isobel Ham

Year 10 Woodford House Student, 2018

Thursday 2 August 2018, a night that will forever be etched in my mind – Arts Showcase. A night of melodies, harmonies, speech and song. The hall was filled with joy and wonder. A symphony of celebration. My group, the Woodford House Orchestra were on first in the second half. As we walked to the stage our pre-performance jitters were clearly present.

Our time to perform had come. We started our piece with a perfectly executed drum solo, followed by the full orchestra. Sweet and mellow tones of well-thought out harmonies and melodies flooded the hall and the butterflies in everyone’s tummies soon flew away with the sweet symphony.

As our piece drew to a close with the final notes being played from every instrument it was very clear that we had all immensely enjoyed ourselves. From the cellos, that provided the bass notes and foundation of the piece to the flutes that carried the main melodies that were oh-so-perfectly executed.

Pride filled me that our orchestra girls had done so well, after all the hours of practice, determination and hard work put into only one term of rehearsal. As head of Orchestra 2018, the hours of organisation, communication and practice were truly worth it. This experience has strengthened my love for music and performing. Truly, what a night!

In 2019, Woodford House will celebrate its 125th anniversary as a leading school for girls. In the lead up to this significant milestone, we are sharing 125 Moments or Memories about Woodford House from a range of perspectives including Old Girls, Parents, Current Students, Staff and Board Members. We invite you to share your special moment here
