In Terms 3 and 4, 2018, I trialled the use of Career Central with Year 12 and 13 students. This is a careers website developed several years ago by Sue Hancock, Careers Advisor at Matamata College, and one of her senior students, now employed by Career Central. The feedback from students was very positive and this year all students have access to it.
Students, parents and staff can log in with their KAMAR username and password. Each student has their own dashboard which saves information they enter, interview notes and messages to students, as well as links to tertiary institutions and careers-related resources. It is a very user-friendly system.
During our chats, students often want more detailed information about a course or subject they are considering studying and these links can then be added to the ‘Shared Resources’ area for easy access.
All eight universities have visited Woodford House during Term 1 to give their Introduction to University Study presentation and it has been great to see so many parents accompanying their daughters to these events. The universities will return in Term 3 to assist students in planning their first year of study. All dates for career focused events are on the Career Central calendar, including Tertiary Open Days and Career Expos.
