Beanies for SCBU

The Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at Hawke’s Bay Hospital plays a vital part in caring for more than 300 babies annually that are born early or unwell at birth.

Keeping new born babies warm during the winter months is essential and the hospital is always looking for people to donate knitted goods which makes a big difference. They are especially looking for beanies, blankets, booties and cardigans for premature babies.

Over the last few months, Sharmila Tautari, Jessica MacFarquhar, Olivia Eames, Pippa McKenzie and myself knitted hats for premature babies in SCBU. In total, they knitted 51 woollen hats in all different shapes, sizes and colours. I also knitted some little vests which were very cute. The next project the girls are looking at is learning how to knit a wider range of essential items to donate to the babies and their families.
