On Friday 30 October 2020, Woodford House celebrated outstanding sporting achievements at the Sports Achievers’ Breakfast, which was held at the School.
The event was an opportunity to celebrate our myriad of sporting achievements, despite 2020 having been such a challenging year.
Due to the nature of the sporting landscape during the past year, with limited tournament and representative opportunities for a number of codes, the awards took on a different format to past years. It was an inspiration to see the level at which our students perform across such a wide variety of sporting activities and to know that future generations of sport participants at the School will have real winners to look up to. We were thrilled to welcome Barbara Kendall as our guest speaker for the event. Barbara Kendall is a national sporting treasure. She is the only New Zealand woman to have competed in five Olympic Games, winning every colour medal starting with Gold in 1992. Barbara also won 11 World Championship medals and 25 National Championships during her athletic career in international windsurfing. In 2018, Barbara was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (CNZM) for her services to sport leadership. This award adds to her Member of the British Empire (MBE) in 1993. Barbara was also New Zealand Sportswoman of the year in 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2002.
Congratulations to all the girls who received awards or were nominated for their sporting success and contributions.
