NYDS 2018

The National Youth Drama School (NYDS) is a week-long intensive course held annually at Havelock North High School with expert tutelage from industry professionals.

A group of Woodford House students attended this year and experienced a wide range of courses including technical theatre, poetry, acting voice and song writing. Throughout the week students experienced performances from those in the industry as well as taking part, whether it was behind the scenes, on the stage or on the screen. Below some of the girls have expressed their experiences of this unique opportunity.

“Quite literally one of the best weeks of your life where you get to meet so many cool people just as passionate about performing arts as you are.”

Ella Ruddle, Year 11

“NYDS is entrancing and an amazing experience.”

Maia Briggs, Year 11

“There’s something about this place it changes you.”

Vayva Ridley, Year 11

“Really eye opening.”

Elise Maiorana, Year 12

“I met so many amazing people and learnt how to put together a pretty full on show in a week!”

Fenn Braithwaite, Year 13

“Each day I’ve come to this place and been inspired by the talented people out there.”

Amelia Foster, Year 13

“NYDS has been a fantastic experience.”

Kaitlyn Peck, Year 10

“It’s a place where you can truly express yourself and be truly supported by everyone around you. There’s no competitiveness and instead a loving feeling of acceptance. If it was an actual school I’d have no hesitation to go there.”
