HB Magpies Visit and Sports Round-up

Find out about our recent high profile guests on the sports field plus the NZSS cross country champs in Dunedin and the latest netball and hockey highlights.

Woodford versus the Magpies

It was all action on the sports field recently as our 1st XI Football and Premier Netball teams took up the challenge to train with six members of the Hawke’s Bay Magpies led by Assistant Coach Danny Lee and star player Zac Guildford. The pace was fast and furious as the session focussed on building controlled aggression. What an awesome experience! Danny and Zac also visited the Sports Academy to give the athletes an insight into the expectations of being a Magpie.

NZSS Cross Country Championships

Our cross country team has just arrived back from competing in Dunedin at the national champs at the weekend. Our team of Olivia Ward, Ginny Gibbs, Monique Way, Katie McNeil, Mrs Taylor and I had a really fun trip; it was Katie’s first time flying! We were all billeted with St Hilda’s families and had a quick tour of Dunedin with Mrs Barron! Another added bonus was handing out the lollies on the flight back home. It never really got above 5 degrees and the course was really muddy but Ginny came 19th from 90 girls in the junior girls’ race and I came 16th from around 130 girls in the senior girls’ race. Katie, Monique and Olivia all ran really well too! Special thanks to Mrs Taylor for all the hard work she’s put into training us and getting us all down there – it was definitely worth it!
