Welcoming International Students and New Initiatives

By | April 5, 2017

Woodford House welcomed five new international students from Vietnam, Futuna Island and Thailand this term. A special orientation programme was offered to provide the girls with essential information and skills to cope with initial cultural shocks as well as help them settle into their new boarding life at Woodford House. The girls are very excited to experience the famous Kiwi hospitality and the exciting sunny Hawke’s Bay lifestyle. They are very keen on making friends with Kiwi students and sharing their knowledge and experience about the world.

Under the International Education Growth Funding project, with support from Education New Zealand, we also successfully hosted an agent familiarised visit in cooperation with Napier Boys’ High School. Chinese agents from three different agencies in Beijing, Chengdu, and Shenyang spent seven days with us during the Hawke’s Bay Art Deco festival. In addition to the festive activities, the group visited Napier Boys’ High School, Hereworth and Woodford House. They attended a couple of workshops on NCEA and how to promote our schools. Our visitors were impressed with the quality of life in this region and even more impressed with the education offered at our school. We will continue to work with Napier Boys’ High School to follow up with these agents.

The International office also successfully launched a free Japanese culture and language class which started in February 2017. The lessons run for an hour after school every Monday. Mrs Midori Nagata, mother of Miharu Nagata in Year 8, is the teacher of this class. It has been very well received and currently has 8-10 students attending every week.
