French Opera Lights Up The Stage

By | March 30, 2017

Woodford House NCEA Music students and choir groups attended the fabulous Opera Carmen at the Municipal Theatre in Napier on Monday 20 February. This was a very exciting and new experience as for some, it was their first time seeing an opera live.

Carmen, by Georges Bizet, is one of the most renowned French Operas and attending the show set a high standard for others to come. The girls were excited to see Sol3 Mio star Moses Mackay performing one of the main roles of Escamillo. His costume was impeccable as the fire red and royal gold designs of the bullfighter attire, along with the daring character, set off a ravishing applause from the audience.

Jose Aparicio, who also takes the Up Close choral group at Woodford House, was seen conducting the entire show with every little moment of the Opera being brought together and enhanced with the lovely sounds in his direction.

We were truly lucky to have such a talented musician to allow liberal opportunities for girls interested in music.
