Sporting Achievements

Well done to the following girls who continued to excel in their sports codes during the school holidays and start of Term 1.


Athletics – Ruby Hansen

Ruby competed at the New Zealand Athletics Club Track & Field Championships finishing 4th in the 300m Hurdles and winning a bronze in the 4x100m.

BMX – Maia Troup

Maia is a team member of the JJJBMX race team and the Hawke’s Bay BMX Club. Maia entered the 2016 Oceania Championship, held in Auckland, where she achieved the ranking of Oceania #7. During the past month she has also competed in the Auckland and Wellington regional championships achieving rankings of #7 and #5 respectively, in her 14 Year girls category.

Cricket – Monique Way

Monique was captain of the Hawke’s Bay Under-15 team which won the Central Region tournament. Monique was awarded Most Valuable Player for her batting and third for bowling. She was then selected as vice-captain for the Central Districts Under-15 team which won the National Tournament. Monique was also selected in the New Zealand tournament team.

Equestrian – Pheobe Burns, Molly Goodisson, Julia Hyslop and Niamh Bently

Ten girls competed in the 125th Jubilee inter-school equestrian event at Nga Tawa on Wednesday 23 March.  The Woodford House Maroon team with Pheobe Burns, Molly Goodisson, Julia Hyslop and Niamh Bently won the overall competition, and the Woodford House Black team with Bella Ladbrook, Phoebe Burns, Zara Waldin and Laura Foss came sixth overall.

Equestrian – Ginny Gibbs

Ginny competed at the Wairoa show, jumping clear in the 1.20m and finishing 5th in her first New Zealand junior rider event (1.15-1.25m). The Hawke’s Bay SJ Team, which Ginny was selected for, competed at Horse of the Year and won the competition that included teams from all over New Zealand.

Equestrian Dressage – Willa Aitken

Willa is currently leading the young rider accumulator Levels 1-9 on a Level 4 pony as well as coming fourth overall on her Level Two horse. She led the Level 4 section and came second in the Level 2 section. In the all-ages category, Willa is leading the Level 2 super-five and coming second in the Level 2 Zilco accumulator.

Equestrian – Molly Goodisson

Molly competed in the pony 1.15m championship at Horse of the Year, which is a national competition, and finished 2nd on her pony Tuscan Treo.

Equestrian – Tessa Wallace

Tessa was selected again this year to represent the Hawke’s Bay region in the Nations Cup Show Jumping Team Competition at the Horse of the Year Show.

Hockey – Olivia Ward

Olivia has been selected for the Central Districts Under-21 Hockey team. She is the only player from Hawke’s Bay to make the team.web_leaderinsport

Kayaking – Farren McGregor-Smyth

Farren recently represented New Zealand as part of the Under-18 Development Team that competed at the Oceania Sprint Kayak Championships in Adelaide.

Rowing – Jess Norris

Jess Norris won three gold medals at the North Island rowing championships. She was first in the women’s club single skulls, women’s senior single skull and women’s club quad. In the women’s club-eights, Brooke Davies, Francesca Arlidge and Miriam Stone (cox) won a gold medal.

Swimming – Olivia Lee

Olivia qualified in her age group for the New Zealand Divisional II Swim meet in Invercargill. Olivia will be competing as part of the Hawke’s Bay Poverty Bay team.

Swimming – Harriet Park

Harriet was a member of the girls Hawke’s Bay Poverty Bay (HBPB) relay team that won bronze at the NZ Junior Swimming Champs held in Auckland. Harriet was also a member of the girls HBPB Freestyle relay (placed 7th). In individual events Harriet swam personal best times in all her events:  50m freestyle (9th), backstroke (11th), butterfly (21st), 100m backstroke (16th) and 200m individual medley (32nd).

Tennis – Samantha Cave

Sam was selected for the Hawke’s Bay tennis representative team (12 years and under) as their No. 1 player. Samantha won the singles and doubles at the Hawke’s Bay International Junior tennis tournament.

Triathlon – Eva Goodisson

Eva’s latest sporting achievements include:

  • First in the national future champioNZ triathlon festival
  • Attended at the High Performance Triathlon New Zealand Camp
  • Bronze in Under-19 elite triathlon in Wellington
  • First in the junior sprint at the national Sovereign triathlon series.
