Eva Goodisson crowned World Champion

Year 12 student Eva Goodisson has been crowned the under 20s Aquathon world champion after competing at the Triathlon World Championship in Chicago in September.

A day after Eva’s victory, she made the top 10 in the sprint distance race. She was the youngest competitor in both of the Under-20s triathlon events and was one of seven triathletes from Hawke’s Bay.

Her overall time in the aquathon, which involved a 750m swim in the Chicago Lake Harbour and a 5km run in a sweltering 32C, was 34m 16s.

Eva’s achievements gained attention from the media, featuring in Hawke’s Bay Today, the New Zealand Herald and our very own television station TVHB.

Athletics

Changing the Athletics Finals to a twighlight event proved to be a success yesterday with a rise in the number of families being able to attend in support of the girls. Thank you to the Parents’ Association for the idea, and for hosting the delicious gourmet barbecue.

The evening was packed with a range of events, including an enjoyable parent and daughter three-legged race, and the energy amongst the girls, staff and parents was high. The level of sporting excellence was impressive across the year groups with one student, Ruby Hansen, breaking her own 300m hurdles record by 1.35secs.

Congratulations to this year’s champions, and thank you to all of the parents and staff who supported the event.
